Mountain View Library History
According to the Dictionary of Alaska Place Names, the name Mountain View was first used by the Army Map Service in 1941, an appropriate name given the expansive view of the Chugach Mountains.
Mountain View began as a homesteaded community, developing a rich history of community pride and independence that continued after joining the City of Anchorage in 1954 and is still very apparent today. The Mountain View Library began in the early 70s and in 1973 moved to its present day location at Mountain View Drive and Bragaw Street.
The Mountain View Library branch closed in 1988 but was reopened in 2010 at the same locale. This beautifully renovated building is the old/new home to the revitalized Mountain View Branch of the Anchorage Public Library.
