Sensory Friendly Storytime

Sensory friendly storytimes are tailored to meet the needs of youth with sensory issues and their families, engaging children through movement, music, stories and play. While open to all children, sensory friendly storytimes are geared toward children on the autism spectrum, those with sensory integration challenges, or children who have difficulty sitting.

For children ages 2-8 and their families.

Storytime 1-1:30pm, playtime 1:30-2pm

It's ok to get up and move around during storytime. We provide "fidgets" if children need to keep their hands busy. If you need to leave storytime early, that's quite all right. We understand the need to be flexible.

The Loussac Library

This is where people check out books or sign up to get a free library card.

The children’s area is on the second floor. This is the elevator that will take us there.

This is the children’s area, where there are lots of toys to play with.

There are lots of books and movies to check out at the library! There are even computers to use if I need one.

This is the desk where the librarian sits. The librarian can answer any questions I have and help me find things.

These are two of the librarians: Linda and Kelsey

This is the storytheater where storytime happens.

These are the bathrooms.

When I’m ready to leave the library, I take the elevator back downstairs and check out my books. I can either use the self-checkout machine or ask a friendly staff person for help.

Bye-bye, Anchorage Public Library! See you next time!

Manners! Saturday, Aug 12, 1pm-2pm, Loussac Library

Clap your hands, clap your hands, everybody clap your hands.
Clap your hands, clap your hands, clap your hands, clap your hands,
Everybody, clap your hands!
Stomp your feet...
Touch your nose...
Wave hello...!

Freeze, freeze, freeze, remember to say please.
Freeze, freeze, freeze, remember to say please.
If someone is nice to you, don't forget to say thank you.
Freeze, freeze, freeze, remember to say please.
In five, four, three, two, one, THANK YOU!

Eggs up, eggs down,
Shake your eggs all around. (repeat)
Eggs in, eggs out,
Shake your eggs all about. (repeat)
Right knee, left knee,
Shake your eggs fancy free. (repeat)
Right hand, left hand,
Shake your eggs with the band. (repeat)
On your back, on your tummy,
Shake your eggs nice and funny. (repeat)
Eggs up, eggs down,
Put your eggs on the ground. (repeat)

Eyes Are Watching (tune: Frere Jacques)
Eyes are watching, ears are listening.
Lips are closed. Hands are still.
Feet are very quiet, you should really try it,
Listening well, listening well.

One little, two little, three little bubbles,
Four little, five little, six little bubbles,
Seven little, eight little, nine little bubbles,
Ten little bubbles, POP POP POP!

Goodbye, friends. Goodbye, friends.
Goodbye, friends, it's time to say goodbye!
